I made sushi for the first time about three years ago. After getting the supplies, I looked up some videos and recipes. After trying some, going to various sushi places was the way to explore more variations. There were typical sushi places and nice restaurants but one of my favorite places was a very small family owned shop in Bristol, TX. They made the sushi fresh and had so many delicious varieties to choose from. This is when sushi-making made a big step forward. It was here that I learned about deep-fried sushi and went home and tried it. It turned out quite well and when I made it for people they would be incredulous how sushi was deep-fried but once they tasted it they were in love with it almost as much as I was. For the deep fried roll I used salmon, shrimp, green onions, and tempura coated in tempura batter and then fried. For the sauces I used sriracha sauce mixed with mayonnaise for one and homemade eel sauce for the other. The colors of these sauces together on the deep fried rolls looked so warm and appetizing.
Some of the other rolls were the more common California roll with cream cheese, carrot, and avocado. Another one I tried was the mosaic roll which combined a variety of brightly colored ingredients in such a way that when you cut it there was a pattern in the sushi. The last time I made this the pattern did not come out exactly right so I will be trying that one again in the future to perfect it.
